The Toontails: The Great Toon Caper is a 2022 American animated comedy adventure comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the animated television series The Toontails, it was directed by Stevie Wermers and Kevin Deters, and written by Tom Ruegger, Pamela Ribon and Jim Reardon, with the first two co-wrote the story with Phil Johnston and Jennifer Lee. It to be fully animated in stylized computer-generated imagery (as opposed to being entirely animated in 2D like the first film, or mixing 2D and CGI animation together like in the second film), as well as to be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The regular voice cast of the series reprise their respective roles from the series and the previous films and including new characters (both live-action and animated) performed by Richard Kind, Kathryn Kahn, Mary J. Blige, Kevin Hart, Ryan Reymolds, Danny Trejo, and Alan Tudyk. It is the third theatrical film based on the series, following the first in 2005 and second in 2016. The film follows the Toontails as they set off on their epic but crazy quest to find Mayor Gumbo after he got kidnapped.
Development for a third Toontails film began in October 2016, two months after the release of Getting Real in Fabulous 3D!. By December 2016, Johnston and Lee had been hired to write the film, and by May 2019, Wermers and Deters was onboard as director. Christophe Beck composed the film's musical score.
The Toontails: The Great Toon Caper premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on April 5, 2022. Originally planned for a worldwide theatrical release, plans were changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was released on February 25, 2022, on the Disney+ streaming service and was released theatrically in most countries without the streaming service, grossing over $58 million. The film was theatrically released in the United States on August 18, 2023. The Great Toon Caper received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for the animation and loyalty to the series, although criticism was on its uneven plot with some critics calling the film derivative to the first film. A fourth theatrical film, The Toontails: Around the Tooniverse, is currently in development with a release date of November 22, 2028.

In an August 2016 interview discussing The Toontails Movie: Getting Real in Fabulous 3D!'s success at the box office, Alan Horn, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, stated the possibility of a third film was "a good bet." He also remarked that, "Let just hope that it won't take 10 years to make another film," in reference to the time passed between The Toontails Movie (2005) and its 2016 sequel.
On October 15, 2016, it was announced that Disney were developing a new theatrical film featuring The Toontails, which was scheduled for a 2021 release with Disney Television Animation producing the film. By December 2016, Tom Ruegger, Phil Johnston and Jennifer Lee had been hired to write the film.
In September 2018, three months after Jennifer Lee become the CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studios, she officially announced that the third Toontails film is now in production at Walt Disney Animation Studios, while Disney Television Animation still involved with the film, and Stevie Wermers and Kevin Deters, who both previously directed Olaf's Frozen Adventure was also announced as the film's director. In September 2018, it was reported that the former Toontails showrunner Jared Bush had been hired as the film's new screenwriter, alongside Jennifer Lee and Tom Ruegger, who both serves as executive producers, with Peter Del Vecho as the film's producer. Ruegger explained that the reason why Disney decided to put the film's production at Walt Disney Animation Studios is because of Jennifer Lee was interested to let the studio to make another film based on Disney Television Animation's original IP characters due to the major success of computer-animated Tyler & Marky films, and that the film would pay homage to the series.

The Toontails: The Great Toon Caper was originally scheduled to be theatrically released on August 13, 2021, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was then pushed back to February 25, 2022, with Tyler & Marky: Magical Mayhem taking its place, before being delayed to April 15, 2022. These shifts were reportedly made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the Omicron variant cases rose, on January 7, 2022, the decision was made to shift the film, along with Jaylan Unleashed and Pixar's Turning Red from its theatrical release to its direct-to-streaming release on Disney+ as a Disney+ original. In international markets where Disney+ was not available, it was released theatrically. In March 2022, it was announced that it would play a one-week theatrical engagement at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre from April 15–21, 2022. Disney canceled the Russian release on February 28, 2022, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
