Sonny: The New Journey is a 2020 American computer-animated fantasy adventure-comedy film produced by the Warner Animation Group and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the sequel to 2012's Sonny and 2015's Sonny 2, and is the third installment in the Sonny film trilogy. Directed by Lacey Robinson and Kate Petersen and written by Nicholas Stoller, Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, Robinson, and Matthew Fogel, the film features the voices of Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Holland, Margot Rubin, Sofía Vergara, Emily Blunt and Zac Efron, reprising their roles from the previous films, and joined by Nick Offerman, Idina Menzel, Amanda Leighton, Zendaya, Anthony Anderson, Amy Poehler, James McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlie Day, and Lucy Liu. In the film, Sonny and his gang embark in their most ambitious adventure to stop three villains: his old enemies: Professor Nitpick and Queen Ruby, and the vicious robot pirate Captain Row from wiping out both Naetitopia and the Kingdom of Dragatia entirely.
Sonny: The New Journey had its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on December 17, 2019, and was released theatrically on January 10, 2020 in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX. The film received critical acclaim upon release, with critics praising the vocal performances, screenplay, emotional depth, animation and Powell's musical score. It grossed $608 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2020 and the highest-grossing animated film of the year. At the 92nd Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Sound.

Sonny: The New Journey had its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on December 17, 2019. It was originally scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on December 13, 2019 by Warner Bros. Pictures, but the film was pushed forward a month earlier to November 8, 2019, before being removed from the release schedule; it later rescheduled for January 10, 2020.
The film was released in Australia and New Zealand on January 23, 2020. The film was released in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2020, as shown on its international trailer. It was scheduled to be released in China on February 20, 2020, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the China release was cancelled. However, the China release was later rescheduled for August 28, 2020. The film is rated PG by the MPA for “frenetic sequences of animated action, brief mild language, some thematic elements, and rude humor.” The film was also released in THX Ultimate Cinema on January 17, 2020, making it the first animated film to receive a THX Ultimate Cinema release.

On March 19, Warner Bros. Pictures announced the film would be available digitally in the United States and Canada through Premium VOD on March 24 due to movie theaters closures because of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD were released in North America on May 5, 2020. The film debuted on HBO Max on July 17, 2020.
