Release[]

Scott and Ruby was released in theaters on September 3, 2004 by Walt Disney Pictures, in the United States and Canada. The film was rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for "some adventure/action violence, mild language and thematic elements". Scott and Ruby was originally slated for release on August 13, 2004, however, in December 2002, the date was changed to September 3, 2004, with Warner Bros./4Kids' Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light taking over its original slot.

The film's theatrical release was preceded by Lorenzo, an original Disney animated short written and directed by Mike Gabriel.

After the success of the 3D re-release of The Lion King, Disney announced a 3D re-release of Scott and Ruby scheduled for September 5, 2014 for the 10th anniversary of the film, but this was cancelled on January 14, 2013, due to the under-performances of other Disney 3D re-releases until further notice. The 3D version was released on Blu-ray instead, but it did play a limited engagement at the El Capitan Theatre from September to October 2014.

The final trailer was released on June 8, 2004, and was released theatrically in front of Around the World in 80 Days and Spider-Man 2.

Upon its release, McDonald's had a promotional tie-in with eight toys with a paid Happy Meal order. A video game based on the film was released in August 2004 for PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and PC.

Disney Channel promoted the film with several promotional spots, alongside the sweepstakes for the film's merchandise, which appeared on DisneyChannel.com but later expired on September 8, 2004.
