Bounjour: A French Story is a 2009 computer-animated romantic comedy film produced by Universal Animation Studios. It was directed by Roger Allers from a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick and David N. Weiss, and stars Elijah Wood, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sofía Vergara and Jennifer Aniston. Set in the 1960s, the film follows a young French couple Michel Wilson and Aurorette Reed, who both fall in love each other and hoping that they could make their dream come true.

This film was released in the United States on June 26, 2009, by Universal Pictures. It received positive reviews from critics and earned $405 million worldwide on a budget of $80 million.

Production[]

At the time, Universal Pictures encouraged everyone at its feature animation division to come up with ideas for more computer-animated features. In March 2005, Universal announced it had begun its development on its computer-animated romantic comedy movie in addition to Galactic Quest. Screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and David N. Weiss have been hired to co-write the screenplay. In March 2006, Roger Allers was hired to direct the romantic comedy movie and it was now titled Bounjour: A French Story. In October 2006, Elijah Wood, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sofía Vergara and Jennifer Aniston.

The CGI animation for most of the scenes from the movie was done in-house at Universal Animation, who did animated Galactic Quest and Me & My Spirit, while the hand-drawn animation for the 2D animated sequences was done overseas by Yowza! Animation. James Horner was announced to score the film in June 2008.

Release[]

Bonjour: A French Story was released in the United States on June 26, 2009. The film's teaser trailer was released in June 2008 and was attached into Kung Fu Panda in theaters. The film's official theatrical trailer was released in December 2008 and was attached into The Tale of Despereaux in theaters. The final trailer was released in March 2008 and was attached into Monsters vs. Aliens in theaters.

Bonjour: A French Story was released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 6, 2009. The film was included on NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock on July 15, 2020.
